Under the auspices of H.E. Minister of Oil and Minerals, Mr. Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, Yemen LNG awarded in Sanaa today 25 new scholarships to France and admitted the first promotion of 12 Yemeni students to its LNG School of Technology to prepare the LNG masters diploma of the French Institute of Petroleum.

Scholarships to France

The 25 scholarship winners were selected upon a competitive process. 13 students have been admitted to undergraduate programs and the remaining 12 to master degree programs in France. 60 students are now studying in France under the YLNG program.

The 2013 scholarship campaign is now open to 80 young Yemenis for the preparation for bachelor and master programs starting in September 2013 after a year of French language training in Sana;a. In August 2013, 20 new scholarships will be offered to the most successful students.

French Institute of Petroleum LNG masters diploma

Yemen LNG admitted 12 Yemeni students to the LNG Diploma program of the prestigious Institut Francais du Petrole. at the LNG School of Technology of Balhaf.

The 40 week program starts early September 2012. 12 students have been admitted to the program after having gone through a rigorous and fair selection process. At the end of the program, successful candidates will be awarded a Graduate Diploma of Petroleum Studies, Major in LNG from the prestigious IFP School, part of the French Petroleum Institute (IFP Energies Nouvelles).

Speaking on the occasion, General Manager of Yemen LNG Fran?ois Rafin noted that ?Yemen LNG increases again its investment in the education. Our LNG business is founded on our trust in the future of Yemen, on our loyalty to its people and on our faith in the Youth. There have been hard times and sabotages of our pipeline but we are there to stay and to boost the economic development. We run and sponsor higher education programs that benefit 420 students this year: scholarships to French universities, marine officers cadet training, sponsorship of Shabwa and Marib students to Yemen universities, French language training for preparation to join French universities. We also run professional training at Balhaf where 180,000 hours of technical programs are delivered in 2012. We support primary and secondary schools for 6600 children in the pipeline region. We run the French School of Sana?a in partnership with Total, where French teachers teach the French curriculum.

?Our LNG School of Technology at Balhaf has already trained thousands of technicians and engineers. We now inaugurate the Master program of the Institute Francais du Petrole. The ministry of higher education recognizes this diploma. We do not know any equivalent School of Technology in the whole Middle East. This is a subject of pride for Yemen.?

BRUSSELS (AP) ? Official figures show that the unemployment rate across the 17 countries that use the euro remained at a record high of 11.3 percent in July, the same as in June but up 1.2 points from a year earlier.

The data published Friday by the European Union's statistical agency, Eurostat, show the financial crisis continues to hurt the economy, with the jobless rate continuing to creep higher to record levels in Spain and Greece.

Even though the eurozone's overall percentage remained stable, Eurostat said some 88,000 more people were without a job in July, for a total of 18 million.

The 11.3 percent unemployment rate is the highest since the euro was formed in 1999.

After Apple bruising, Samsung to bounce back with new Note phablet

SEOUL (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co unveils the second generation of its popular Galaxy Note phone-cum-tablet at Europe's biggest electronics show in Berlin later on Wednesday, as the South Korean firm comes under pressure to innovate after losing a U.S. patent battle with Apple Inc.

A U.S. federal jury last week found Samsung had copied critical features of the iPhone and awarded Apple $1.05 billion in damages. Apple is now seeking speedy bans on the sale of eight Samsung phones, moving swiftly to turn legal victory into tangible business gain.

The Galaxy Note phablet, Samsung's second most popular smartphone after its flagship Galaxy S, is not included in the list of the potential U.S. sales ban, and Samsung hopes the phablet upgrade will lift any post-Apple gloom at the South Korean group.

"There won't be huge innovative changes in design, but the Note 2 will feature quite a few improvements and enable Samsung to carry on its strong sales momentum in the category," said Lee Sun-tae, an analyst at NH Investment & Securities. "With the launch, Samsung will also be trying to turn around downbeat sentiment after the U.S. legal defeat."

The new version of the Note is expected to feature a thinner and slightly bigger 5.5-inch screen, powerful quad-core processor, the latest version of Google's Android operating system called Jellybean, and improved stylus function.

It's the latest product to illustrate Samsung's attempts to make bold design changes as it comes increasingly under pressure to differentiate its line-up from the iPhone, whose simple and large touchscreen-based design revolutionized the mobile industry and is still considered the gold standard of design.

FLEXI-SCREEN

Samsung is also working to introduce smartphones with bendable screens later this year as it seeks to cement its lead in the $200 billion plus global smartphone market and challenge Apple, which is expected to launch its new iPhone on September 12.

The new Note comes just three months after Samsung released the third generation of its Galaxy S smartphone, which has already sold more than 10 million, and succeeds the original 5.3-inch Note, which was introduced in late-October and was a surprise hit, selling more than 10 million within 9 months.

Other firms that offer so-called phablets include LG Electronics and HTC. ABI Research has predicted phablet shipments could reach 208 million by 2015.

Unlike Apple, Samsung depends on various line-ups, offering a range of models in different sizes and with different software, and keeps its product cycle shorter. Later this year, it is expected to launch a new model running Microsoft's upgraded Windows operating system.

Samsung shares rose 2.9 percent to 1.23 million won in Seoul on Wednesday - in a broader Korean market that closed up 0.6 percent - and are now down just 3.5 percent from their levels before last Friday's U.S. ruling. The shares slumped 7.5 percent on Monday, wiping $12 billion off the company's market value.

A U.S. judge on Tuesday set a December 6 court date to hear Apple's request for a permanent injunction against Samsung smartphones, which could delay the potential impact of Apple's legal victory. Michael is an intellectual property attorney based in Birmingham, MI, who focuses on cyber law, social medial law, Digital PR, and reputation management for his clients. Michael was recently mentioned in an article in Crains, involving his client, Fundington LLC???a crowdfunding portal that assists projects, existing companies, and inventors in raising capital.

So what is Crowdfunding?

DON'T GET COMFORTABLE

The first thing amateurs do wrong, they say, is fall in love with their favorite fishing spot and go-to lure. Remember the 7-pound bass you caught in that magical bay using a plastic worm while wearing your dad's lucky Brooklyn Dodgers cap? Coincidence. "I won't spend more than 10 minutes in the same spot fishing the same way, unless I've gotten a positive response," says Kevin VanDam, a seven-time Bassmaster Angler of the Year.

RELISH GRAY DAYS

"Bass are low-light predators," says Kevin VanDam. Go fishing "when the wind is blowing or it's cloudy, or just early in the morning or late in the evening." In low light a bass may chase a lure that is 20 feet away.

AGITATE YOUR FISH

Bass don't always bite because they're hungry. "A lot of times it's a straight aggressive reaction because you annoyed him," says VanDam. Drop the lure near the fish and move it erratically.

REEL IT IN SLOWLY

"Most amateurs fight a fish way too hard from the get-go," 2009 Bassmaster Classic champion Skeet Reese says. "They never stop reeling and they break a fish off." But don't allow the line to go slack. That can let the fish spit the lure.

The Alabama five-lure rig was banned from big tournaments earlier this year. It just made catching bass too easy. Now, there's no need to tell your fishing buddies that, but do check local rules on multilure rigs.

Treasury prices rise after 2-year note auction

Treasury prices are rising after the U.S. sold 2-year notes and after mixed economic reports.

The 10-year Treasury note rose 21.88 cents for every $100 in late afternoon trading Tuesday. The yield fell to 1.63 percent from 1.65 percent late Monday.

The U.S. sold $35 billion in 2-year notes priced to yield 0.273 percent. Slightly before the auction, 2-year notes already trading were yielding 0.272 percent. Demand was strong, with $3.94 in bids for every $1 offered.

The Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller index showed home prices rose in June from May in all 20 cities tracked. The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index fell to its lowest point since November 2011.

The 30-year bond rose 46.88 cents for every $100 invested. The yield fell 2.74 percent from 2.76 percent.

At 33 years old, Lee Abbamonte is the youngest American to have visited every country in the world. Not content to stop there, his next mission is to become the youngest person to visit all 321 countries and territories in the world according to the Travelers' Century Club list of countries. With 305 countries and territories stamped in his passport, he is nearly there.

Ever since he lived in London during a college study-abroad program, Abbamonte has been traveling. He initially set a goal to reach 100 countries by age 30. In 2007, his goal became 150, and his passport stamps and goals grew from there.

After graduation, Abbamonte worked on Wall Street and used his vacation time to travel. To reach so many destinations efficiently, Abbamonte planned his journeys by region. For example, he would go to West Africa for two months, then North Africa, and so on.

After 9/11, Abbamonte quit his job and traveled for two years. Some 13 years since his first trip, Abbamonte has gone hang gliding over Rio de Janeiro, dodged bullets in Libya, conquered the world?s highest bungee jump in South Africa, tracked silverback gorillas in Rwanda, played golf in Afghanistan during the war, gone on safari in the Serengeti, and white-water rafted down the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. But Abbamonte?s favorite travel moment was summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with his best friend.

Abbamonte?s time in each sovereign nation has lasted from one day to six months. He has lived in Europe, Africa and Australia, but despite recently checking off Libya, the 305th nation on his list, there are still 16 places Abbamonte has yet to see. Still on the to-do list are Greenland, where he will go in June, and Antarctica, which Abbamonte will visit this winter. So what does it cost to see the world? Abbamonte estimates he has spent $250,000 traveling.

Buenos Aires, Argentina
The Argentine capital is paradise for carnivores. If you love meat, there is no end to the heaven that awaits you in Buenos Aires. The grilled parrilla, an Argentine way of saying grilled meat, is to die for in the city of tango.

My favorite place to eat is called La Cabrera and it is located in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Get there early, as most Argentines don?t eat dinner until midnight or later. The wait can be long at this local institution, but its worth it. Expect to sit close to your neighbors in a small restaurant and wash down your meat with your favorite malbec from the stocked wine list and bar. The best piece of advice is to come hungry because the portions are large and you will need some extra room because it?s just that good.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The city of samba may indeed be the most exciting city in the world. Its the home of Carnival, amazing nightlife and the best urban beaches on Earth. Rio is also home to some of the world?s best food and drink. The best way to eat quick, delicious and healthy in Rio is acai. This Brazilian "superfruit" is the real deal and it is available at street stalls all throughout Copacabana, Leblon and Ipanema. Add bananas and granola, and prepare to be satisfied, and energized.

At night, don?t miss a Rio institution called Porco. This gorgeous restaurant with views of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf and Corcovado mixed with the amazing taste of Rios top churrascaria make it a can't-miss. The waiters will bring around a variety of salted meats and slice them onto your plate until you tell them to stop. There are several varieties of all kinds of meat, all of which are amazing. For vegetarians, there is also a salad bar and roasted cheese, which may be Porcos most delicious item. Wash all the meat down with a caipirinha and you have yourself an amazing gastronomic feast fit for a king!

Bangkok, Thailand
"One Night in Bangkok" may have been a hit in the 1980s, but Bangkok is certainly worth more than one night. Aside from being one of the worlds most notorious cities, it also features some of the worlds best hotels, nightlife and more importantly, food. Street food is the name of the game in Bangkok and it is widely available.

The backpacker ghetto of Khaosan Road is the home of cheap eats in Bangkok and the streets stalls do the best pad thai I have ever had. For less than $1 (seriously), you can get a feast of pad thai with all the usual accompaniments, the spicier the better. If you want to go back for seconds, it clearly won?t break the bank. Don?t be worried about eating street food in Bangkok; it is clean, sanitary and just delicious.

Lovejoy High School Cheerleading Coach Resigns After Stripping Sleepover Claims

A Georgia high school cheerleading coach has resigned following allegations that she had team members strip during a sleepover at her house.

According to a Clayton County Sheriff's report via The Smoking Gun, the coach hosted a sleepover for the teens at her house and played a game called "Judge and Jury." The coach played the "Judge" while the students played the "Jury." From the report:

[Teresa Reeves of the Clayton County School Board of Education] said the object of the game was to ask a series of questions and in doing so the person would have to answer the question beginning with "honestly." Ms. Reeves said if the student did not answer the question correctly they would have to either run laps around the school track or remove an article of clothing. Ms. Reeves said the student could have their laps reduced if they choose to remove an article of clothing.

A student reported the incident to school officials, but a Clayton County Public Schools spokesperson declined comment to the Clayton News-Daily on an open investigation.

The coach claims that she closed her eyes during the game and didn't see if any of the girls removed all of their clothing, "only the students removed clothing to reveal their under garments," according to the Sheriff's report.

One girl told WSBTV that about a dozen girls were crammed into a closet and stripped to their underwear.

"I'm just totally pissed off. It's past upset. I'm pissed off," the girl's mother told the station. "What child ain't going to try to fit in? They telling her this is what we do every year? Y'all do this every year? Really?"

The Sheriff's Office is investigating based on the reporting student's "outcry" and the allegation that "the incident was videotaped," according to The Smoking Gun.

GW nears unveil of new logo - The GW Hatchet

Two years of work by two top-notch branding agencies will culminate Sunday when GW releases its new logo.

The University brought on FutureBrand and 160over90 ? companies that have headed up high-profile branding and marketing campaigns for clients like the London 2012 Olympics and Mercedes Benz, respectively ? to craft a new ?visual identity.? It will be revealed publicly for the first time at a showy celebration in University Yard, with free food, music, giveaways and a mobile studio that will record students? GW stories.

Within weeks, the University?s marketing brochures, websites, videos and advertisements will reflect the new image and message.

Associate Vice President for External Relations Sarah Baldassaro declined to comment on the details of the contracts ? including the cost ? related to the two agencies. She said the bill was footed primarily out of the Office of External Relations budget, and the pocket of a donor whose name was not disclosed. She also declined to release the price tag for the unveiling event and mobile studio.

Michigan State University paid 160over90 $478,000 for a similar rebranding campaign in 2010, according to its student newspaper, The State News.

Air Malta paid FutureBrand just over $501,000 in July for that the airline?s new logo, according to Malta Today and the Times of Malta, two of the country?s newspapers.

McCann Worldgroup, FutureBrand?s parent company, billed the U.S. Army $1 billion for its ?Army Strong? slogan and advertising campaign in 2006, according to USA Today.

At GW, FutureBrand was tasked with the big-picture design work. The company created the logo, developed the new color palette and selected a typeface from the sans serif family ? which includes fonts like Arial ? rather than a serif font like Times New Roman. In an initial litmus test, the firm interviewed students, faculty and staff on what they felt the University stands for.

Mark Thwaites, creative director at FutureBrand, said one-on-one conversations helped craft GW?s new brand.

?The crux of that work was defining the fact that it is in Washington D.C., but more than just being a pin on a map, it is really the epicenter of policy of the world, so we tried to bring a bigger story to that,? Thwaites said.

Once the team identified GW?s most unique features ? which he would not discuss ? Thwaites said they became the ?pillars? that will unify the new message across different media platforms and the University.

160over90 determined how to apply FutureBrand?s ideas to materials like the signs that deck Foggy Bottom?s streets to identify the campus and mark apparel and marketing materials.

The current logo, which features a solemn right-facing George Washington, is not easily replicated on online platforms ? a problem University officials have noted as messaging moves further into the digital world.

?[The old logo] tended to create a bit of a ransom-note type feel in application, so we really wanted to clean that up and bring a science to when you use the typography ? when you use certain colors and color palettes ? so we did all that,? Thwaites said.

John McGlasson, assistant director of visual design, created a new portrait of George Washington based on a bust created by Jean-Antoine Houdon, a French sculptor. The statue of George Washington in University Yard is a cast of that work.

The new portrait will feature a serif font and a sepia-toned George Washington facing forward with an upward tilt.

While the old logo was emblazoned with ?The George Washington University,? the new logo refers to the school?s shortened, colloquial name: GW.

The University quietly revealed the logo to a group of about 100 faculty and staff members in March. Vice President for External Relations Lorraine Voles said the audience had a generally positive reaction, with criticism like the boldness of its logos too extreme. She said the comments were taken into account as the design process continued through the summer.

The new brand will not change athletic gear or apparel, although members of the Department of Athletics and Recreation were on a 75-person feedback group made up of students, faculty and staff that met throughout the process.

It could take up to a year and a half for the full rollout of new marketing materials. Banners across campus and web tools will change immediately after the Aug. 26 event, but other materials such as brochures, business cards, apparel and advertisements will be phased in over time as offices restock their materials.
