The thing most people don?t understand about the controversial health care law is that under it, alternative care will be illegal. I have it on good authority from those who have read every word of it.
Instead, the law creates a monopoly for the medical profession, guaranteeing doctors, hospital and the pharmaceutical industry their incomes and destroying the availability of other forms of health care and the market dependent on it.
If, as I?m assured, this is so, those of us who depend on naturopathy, homeopathy, chiropractic, reflexology, massage therapy, acupuncture and herbal remedies will be denied the right to decide how to care for ourselves. So much for free choice.
If Medicare is any example of what government will make available, and it doesn?t at present pay for the things that most senior citizens need ? glasses, teeth and hearing aides ? what will it offer to those who try to take care of ourselves?
I wrote to my congressman on Dec. 1, 2009, with these concerns. He did not answer my questions. Now I know why.
